The Card Game
This project started out as a collection of animal doodles. It’s just something I do every morning with my first coffee.
I was thinking about their lives in the forest. What does it feel like to be a Kermode bear on a Tuesday afternoon? What do they think about, once they’ve taken care of the basics (food, shelter, safety). Do they worry about the future, as so many people seem to do?
Since people are animals too, it doesn’t seem so farfetched that we should understand their thoughts. Or that they might have some advice for us. The animals are mainly non-verbal, at least in English. But they do have body language and facial expressions, of a sort. They can look back at us, which is what they’re doing in these cards.
Most drawings or photos of animals show them from the side, minding their own business, ignoring people. These drawings show them aware of us looking at them. What do you imagine we’re saying in that conversation? What can we find in common?
That’s what I hope you get from these drawings: an appreciation of our common experience with these animals on this planet Earth.

As a card game now, the cards are educational, helping to identify the animals. The game is fun to play for all ages. I imagine this as a camping game. You’d play on a picnic table beside your tent in the woods, wondering which animals may be nearby.
Each deck is small, light, and easy to carry in a knapsack. It works without batteries or an Internet connection. It’s the perfect game for a hike in the great outdoors.
You can order the game from the moment the shop is up, which we expect to be very soon. If you have any questions regarding carrying this project or simply ordering yourself a wonderful card game, send us a email or message below, we love to hear from you.
